Many people are reluctant (or even scared) to undertake fish preparation – when it’s something that has been part of life for centuries. Our workshop takes all of the fear out of fish, and gives you the knowledge, skills and confidence to go home and start enjoying preparing fish in your own kitchen. It’s pretty quick, straight-forward and fun when you know how!
Using the freshest possible fish and shellfish from Birmingham’s excellent wholesale and indoor market, you’ll also be introduced to both Asian and European cookery styles and sit down to eat some incredible dishes throughout the day that you will make. Dishes vary according to season and freshness but you can be sure of a fantastic fishy feast.
During the course you’ll learn about and prepare:
The course starts promptly at 10.30am and finishes at 4pm at Loaf’s high street cookery school on Stirchley High Street in South Birmingham. You’ll feel right at home at Loaf, and everything you learn will set you up for bringing your own kitchen alive.
All refreshments, equipment, recipes and aprons are provided. You’ll be eating everything that we make – which is a real feast!

Prett will talk you through the day's menu and give a general introduction to the spices being used. You will then start cooking under her expert tuition, learning everything you need to know to enable you to cook an authentic Indian meal.
Learn how to fillet a fish (sea bass or similar) and learn how to make a delicious fish stock and sauce
We look at 3 ways of cooking different types of fish. during the class you’ll discuss different types of fish and how to embrace your local fishmonger, they do the dirty work so you can concentrate on preparing delicious healthy meals.
This fabulous class teaches you all the techniques you’ll need in order to create a range of really impressive shellfish & fish dishes. Our chef will show you the best ways to source, prepare, cook and serve fish and shellfish.
