Assertiveness is a life changing skill. It’s about respecting the opinions and needs of others and expecting the same for yourself.
Assertiveness is a life changing skill. It’s about respecting the opinions and needs of others and expecting the same for yourself.
People often confuse assertiveness with aggression; being assertive is not about winning the argument, always getting your own way, or being someone you’re not, it’s about understanding others and then being able to express your own needs and opinions.
People who lack assertiveness mainly fall into one of two camps; they are either passive and want to please, or aggressive and want to win – either way it’s not good and can lead to feeling resentful, angry or depressed. A lack of assertiveness can easily lead to feeling bullied in the workplace or in personal relationships.
To be assertive is to be empowered by the belief that your needs opinions and feelings are just as important as anyone’s!

Hi, my name is Lindsay. I work with many issues but specialise in anxiety and low self-esteem.
I hold a Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (NCS Accredited) and I have trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for 5 years.
I am a registered member of The British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I was previously an associate at Sheffield CBT Practice and Cornerstone Counselling and Therapy Centre, both well-established practices in Sheffield before starting my own practice.
I work with many issues but I specialise in working on issues to improve confidence and mood, and lower general anxiety and stress, my clinical interests are working with low self-worth and low self-esteem. I use a wide range of interventions, often blending, counselling with other strategies such as CBT and assertiveness training.
I am experienced working 1:1 and facilitating group work. I worked for 5 years within a trauma and abuse therapy service helping clients to recover from trauma and begin to develop healthy self-esteem and confidence on a one to one basis and in a group setting. I am very practised at working with trauma safely and will ensure you will not feel re-traumatised in the session.
I know these first steps can be daunting but you will find me warm, friendly, understanding and non-judgmental. I am passionate about helping people to find their inner confidence, to feel empowered to move forward in their lives, reduce dysfunctional behaviours and improve relationships with self and others.
My city centre office is easily accessible by public transport and plenty of on street parking nearby if you’re driving.
