This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to extract and serve espresso coffee beverages using commercial espresso machines and grinders.
It requires the ability to advise customers on coffee beverages, select and grind coffee beans, prepare and assess espresso coffee beverages and to use, maintain and clean espresso machines and grinders. Complex repairs of equipment would be referred to specialist service technicians.
This 3 day course requires the completion of the following units:
SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety
SITHFAB005 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
All NCTC staff have appropriate qualifications (e.g. Training and Assessment, Hospitality Industry & Business), hold Blue Cards, have wide industry experience and a commitment to the provision of service to assist people in gaining positive employment outcomes. To enhance our services, we have on site a Youth Mental Health First Aider and Youth Worker as well as a First Aid Officer.
Participants “connect” with our staff, which enables us to identify relevant specialist support specific to the needs of the individual and develop individual confidence to participate in the interventions.
This unit provides students with the opportunity to develop basic skills and knowledge required to prepare, extract, and serve, a variety of espresso coffees whilst adhering to hygienic food safety practices, including the popular short & long blacks, cappuccino, café latte, macchiato and more.
Become a qualified barista and learn how to prepare and serve a range of coffee beverages. In this course students will learn the theoretical and technical sides of coffee making including the methods and techniques for preparing caffe lattes, cappuccinos, espressos (short black), and much more.
Dispel the myths and learn coffee making skills for working in cafes, bars and restaurants. It is important to note that SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety is a prerequisite for this program and you will need to provide evidence of this prior to commencing this training.
