French cuisine is a great place to start for any cook or chef, with many traditional dishes based on classic techniques and flavour combinations. This class will introduce you to some of these as you get hands-on with our chefs in the kitchen practising the perfect soufflé or rustic cassoulet.
With our Taste of… classes we want to get you excited about some of the amazing food that’s being cooked all around the world. There’s so much to learn and discover when it comes to regional cuisines, from new flavors to age-old traditions, this is just the starting point for many more kitchen adventures to come.
Join us for the day and have a go at mastering some French classics. Our chefs will help you learn the secrets to balancing rich flavors in a soup or cassoulet, as well as the impressive baking skills needed to get a towering soufflé or picture-perfect tart.
You’ll be working with some delicious French produce (cheese of course!) and end up with recipes and skills you can keep cooking at home.

Gordon has always been passionate about sharing his love of food and the Gordon Ramsay Academy is where this is brought to life, offering guests of all ages and all levels of cooking ability the chance to enjoy fun, relaxed and informative cookery classes.
With multiple kitchens and a large demonstration room upstairs, the Academy is set up for a real hands-on experience in every class. There’s plenty of space for both intimate sessions and larger groups, plus inspiration from our cookbook library and room to relax with a coffee in our comfy lounge.
Your little Chefs will cook a really tasty French biscuit that you can eat at any time of the day.
Europe is formed by 44 Countries big and small. Whilst the food in the Southern European countries has many similarities. The same can be said for the countries in the North, East and West of Europe. All unique cuisines and yet with many similarities amongst them.
You’ll learn to use a preferment to make tasty baguettes, rustic pain de compagne and a flour/water scald for a soft and fluffy pain de mie.
Synonymous with classical cuisine, many of the world’s most loved dishes originated in France, as well as the repertoire forming the building blocks for many chefs across many continents.
This day’s hands on cooking course at The Edinburgh New Town Cookery School will be spent making classic French favourites. We will show you how diverse French food is and how it varies from region to region.
