Bring your own knife to this class and learn from Japanese master, Osamu Miyamoto, on how to properly sharpen a knife on a whetstone. Osamu, also know as 'Yuushin' leant to sharpen knives from his father when he was 10 years old and has been sharpening knives ever since.
He is a wealth of knowledge on material, blade construction and and how a knife can affect the taste of food.
This class runs for 4 hours and is limited to 8 people at a time. 2 hours will be spent with Yuushin on knife sharpening and then another 2 hours with a Golden Pig Chef learning slicing and dicing techniques, cooking a simple Asian meal and sitting down and enjoying it with a glass of wine or beer.
The Golden Pig Restaurant and Cooking School is owned by Katrina and Mark Ryan. The award winning. modern Asian restaurant runs Wednesday through to Saturday. The Golden Pig Restaurant was awarded a Good Food Guide Chef's Hat in 2019.
The cooking school runs Sundays an Mondays and offers hands-on cooking classes in a variety of popular cuisines.
General classes are open to the public and we also offer specialised classes and events that can be tailored to suit private or corporate groups and special occasion classes. Our classes aim to be informative, educational and fun at the same time.
The Golden Pig is located in a spacious, light filled, warehouse in inner city Newstead. The flexible floor plan includes an open kitchen, front and back dining areas and a small rear courtyard and garden.
