Walnut Grove School of Music & Dance offers a total of 19 courses.
Students for these instruments usually are ages 9 or older as they need to have developed a greater lung capacity and in the case of the tuba need to be big enough to hold the instrument.
Our drums lessons stress proper technique so students become good drummers quickly. Our drum instructors have university or college training and are active performers. Private drum lessons are available in 30 minute, 45 minute and 1 hour lengths.
Our students enjoy lots of personal attention in our small classes with only 8 students per class. The children greatly benefit by having a specialist in preschool dance for the dance part of the class and a specialist in preschool music teach the music part.
Our musical theatre program is unique in that in addition to providing a top quality dance instructor to teach the choreography, our musical theatre classes also have one of our voice teachers from our music school come in every week to cover the vocal component.Â
The classes offered begin with pre-primary ballet for children aged 5 ½ and older, primary for children aged 7 and older, grade 1 ballet ages 8-10 and so on. The grades of ballet do not follow the same ages as public school grades.
This beginner program allows students to take the 2 most popular forms of dance in one class. The jazz/hip hop class teaches fundamental jazz steps and combines the elements of hip hop moves and contemporary music.
Contemporary dance is a style that typically deals with the abstract in both form and content. Unlike other more structured forms of dance the movements are generally intended to be performed with a released or relaxed quality.
Tap dance is a style of dance where metal plates are attached to the heel and toe of the shoe making sounds when the shoe strikes the floor. It is a very rhythmic style of dance where the dancer is like a percussion instrument.Â
This fun class is for children age 2 along with Mom or Dad. This is a great introduction to dancing for children just developing their coordination.
