This module is mapped against A1 level in Russian according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is for absolute beginners or students with very limited knowledge of the language.

Russian is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world, with more than 150 million native speakers and another 110 million or so who speak it as a secondary language, mostly in former Soviet Union republics such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Ukraine, and Georgia.

This beginners’ Russian course aims to introduce you to the language, the culture and basic grammar and conversation skills in Russian.

This semester the Language Centre will be offering over 80 classes in 14 different languages. Classes range from Beginners to Post A level and are available in Russian. This semester we will have both online and in person teaching. 

This 20 week course will introduce some of the basic structures of Russian through topics related to social and everyday life in the countries where it is spoken. The focus is on listening,speaking and reading simple materials that introduce basic grammatical structures.
