Portugal has a population of just over 10 million, so why is Portuguese spoken by 250 million people around the world? One word: Brazil. It is also the official language of eight countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guine-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, and São Tome and Príncipe.

Students will acquire knowledge (e.g., vocabulary, grammatical structures, etc) that will enable them to establish basic communication and read simple texts in Portuguese.

This semester the Language Centre will be offering over 80 classes in 14 different languages. Classes range from Beginners to Post A level and are available in Portuguese (Brazilian). This semester we will have both online and in person teaching. 

This 20 week course will introduce some of the basic structures of the language through topics related to social and everyday life in the country/countries where it is spoken. The focus is on listening, speaking and reading simple materials that introduce basic grammatical structures.

We offer a wide variety of languages from complete beginners through to advanced level. If you're unsure of your level, you can take our online test designed to determine the best class for you. Classes take place in the evening or on Saturdays.
