The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) offers a three-part course for the Certificate in Credit Management based on the syllabus of the Institute of Credit Management (ICM).

This course aims to equip individuals working with a company’s debtors and/or creditors, with the knowledge and skills to perform their duties in line with the objectives as set out in the National Credit Act, The Consumer Protection Act and the Companies Act.

This programme provides you with the relevant skills and competencies required to enable you to use and apply the fundamental principles of credit management.

Most people need to obtain credit to get the goods they want, and to pay these items off in instalments. To ensure that credit providers do not take advantage of consumers, consumer rights in South Africa are protected under the National Credit Act (No. 34 of 2005) (NCA).

The National Credit Act No 34 of 2005 was passed by Parliament on the 10th of March 2006 and aims to reduce reckless credit behaviour, both by credit providers and consumers and to reduce the level of over-indebtedness in South Africa.

The course includes the theory and rules of Debt Collecting as well as the drafting of all relevant documentation.
