The person credited with this unit standard is able to safely operate and use a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP). The learner will be able to assess his/her work environment so as to establish any safety hazards in order to prevent or eliminate such hazards and resultant losses.
The person credited with this unit standard is able to identify the safety and suitability of crane type prior to utilisation while applying methods of inspecting and recording the operational fitness of all components of the crane.
Operating a lifting machine takes place within a regulatory framework that seeks to ensure safety of the operator, the lifting machine and the lifting machine environment. Rough terrain/earthmoving/agricultural equipment is dangerous, hence, their safe operation cannot be overstated.
