Our introduction to hand knitting will include topics such as wools & yarns, needles, patterns, gadgets and techniques etc. You will begin by simply learning how to cast on and then learn the basic stitches used by all knitters around the world.

Our after school classes will introduce a love of sewing to those aged 9 and over, including teenagers. Our students learn a variety of basic skills from hand stitching to machine use and then go on to use that knowledge to create their own project.

Beginners are encouraged to work on my beginner projects. Designed for the absolute beginner, we cover the essential sewing skills needed when you are learning to sew. Start with a bag, cushion cover or pajama pants.

Learn how to use and understand a sewing pattern. Develop a knowledge of textiles and become confident when selecting fabric.

You will learn a range of sewing techniques while making three fun and fashionable projects in a friendly small group. In term 1, we will learn how to make a gorgeous backpack, a super-fun, super-sized pencil bolster, and a very useful wall organiser - all the things you need to get ready.

Interested in learning the art of garment embellishment and embroidery? In this 2-day workshop you will be introduced to many easy and decorative stitches to embroider your own motif design onto textiles.

Through our Workplace Training Program, The Fashion Institute provides a pathway for students to gain hands on experience within the industry. This program paves the way for students to develop invaluable skills, which will open the doors to a fulfilling career in fashion.

Immerse yourself in the world of styling with our 2 day Fashion Styling workshop. You'll learn about trend research, concept ideation, sourcing and planning a shoot, and be part of a photoshoot in a professional photography studio. 

This is an introductory level Nationally accredited qualification that provides foundational knowledge and skills in fashion design and will provide a pathway into further studies in Fashion Design at Certificate IV, and then Bachelor levels.
