This course provides participants with an ability to identify and understand the dangers of asbestos, an awareness of its possible locations and the procedures followed if presence is detected.

Participants will have the opportunity to acquire all of the skills and knowledge that they require to safely remove non friable asbestos. They will also have to demonstrate their ability to apply these skills and knowledge in practical scenarios and exercises.

This four hour session provides guidance on identifying asbestos containing materials, understanding the risks posed by asbestos and how to manage and work safely in areas where asbestos may be suspected or confirmed.

This is an essential course for anyone working in environments where they may come into contact with materials containing asbestos. This course will teach you to recognise materials where asbestos may be present, and to provide you with the knowledge to work with it, or to remove it.

Asbestos Awareness is a course focused upon providing and reinforcing asbestos awareness, and to help students to identify different types of asbestos.

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment, recognized within the Australian Qualifications Framework and issued under the authority of the National Vocational Education and Regulator Act 2011

Non-friable asbestos materials include asbestos cement sheeting, often called fibro, used in many buildings before 1990. The sheeting was used for cladding, roofs and fences and can often be found as backing boards in wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms. 

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to remove friable asbestos containing material (ACM). It includes preparing, containing and removing friable ACM, and knowledge and application of decontamination and disposal requirements.
