Learn the basics of sewing with our continuing education program. If you’re trying to break into the fashion design industry, one skill you’ll need is sewing. At Dallas College, you can gain that skill for a fraction of the price you would pay elsewhere.

Sewing class is offered by Color Me Empowered for all skill level. Color Me Empowered was organized in 2008 by Kristen E. Rice, an art teacher at Polk Elementary in Dallas ISD. We work with school-aged children in out-of-school-time and in-school programs in the Dallas area.

In this camp, children will select complimentary fabrics, how to cut fabric, piece the quilt, and basic machine quilting to quilt their piece with cuddle fabric, and apply a binding to a small quilt.

We teach children, teens and adults - beginner, intermediate and advance.   Beginners - Non or very little knowledge on how to operate a sewing machine, basic stitches, basic fabric, basic patterns.

Adding borders to your quilt sounds like a simple task, but there are some things you need to know to prevent common problems. Find out how to figure out how much fabric you need for borders, how to measure accurately

Students will learn an extensive range of hand stitches, how to shape a garment foundation, design and tailor a variety of pocket styles, design and shape lapels and collars, and how to set structured roped sleeves.

This class will teach you new techniques that you can use to go further with your quilting. This class assumes that you know how to sew, quilt or have made at least 1 quilt before.  You will be creating 2 projects with this class utilizing your own stash or purchasing yardage from us.

This class is free when you get your machine through Rocking Bobbin. Call us to make arrangements if you did not get your machine from us.

Students can bring an unfinished project for help, a pattern they would like to make, including quilts, bags and miscellaneous items. You must sign up 1 week prior to the class. Payment is required online at the time of registration.
