In this two hour long class, we're going to explore the fantastic world of hand building with clay to create your very own ceramic masterpiece! Â We'll discover different techniques for mastering the art of hand building as we guide you through the steps to creating a mug, vase or mini planter.
You'll get the opportunity to try activities that will stimulate your creative energy, and get lost in the flow of making, without the pressure of being outcome focused. Â It is all about immersing yourself in the play, rather than focusing on the end result.
This 2-day workshop has been requested by some of the students that have done my Introduction to Embroidery workshops at MakerSpace, Marrickville. The embroidery technique used for this work is called ‘Silk Shading’ or ‘Long-and-Short Stitch’.
This 6-week course is suitable for complete beginners and intermediates working on improving specific techniques. Throughout the term you will learn about preparing clay, throwing simple shapes on the wheel, how to trim and glaze them.
These are a one-off 2-2.5 hour class and consist of basic wheel throwing or Hand-building. You’ll have a brief studio tour and explanation of the ceramic process on arrival.
Class sizes are small (max 12). Individuals are encouraged to work on their own projects, at their own pace, exploring individuality & self expression, whilst interacting with other members of the group and learning about the techniques and chemistry of the sculptural & pottery processes.

This course is for beginners with no previous experience and those that have some experience throwing on a wheel. You will learn the fundamental skills of clay preparation, using a wheel, centring clay, how to throw basic forms, trimming and glazing.
Lay the foundations for the art of creating ceramics using a pottery wheel; start your journey with building basic skills and throwing basic shapes that will later on be fired and glazed by us for you to be proud of and enjoy for years to come!
In this introductory class you will be shown a variety of different hand-building techniques. You will learn how to pinch, coil and join to create basic forms such as a bowl or mug. Once your piece is completed you will select a glaze color of your choice.
