Spanish is the most widely spoken of the Romance languages, both in terms of numbers and in terms of speakers.

In its modern form, it is the official language of Greece and Cyprus and one of the 23 official languages of the European Union. Spoken by approximately 13 million people, including minority and emigrant communities in numerous parts of the world, its written form uses the Greek alphabet.
