More than an ideal age, what is necessary is that the child is both potty trained and familiar with some kind of schooling routine where he/she has learned to follow directions, to work cooperatively and to manage transitions

Generally the child needs to be able to support the clarinet and reach and cover all the keys with his/her hands. Most children can do this by around 5th grade. If the child is ready for this before 5th grade, great! If not, starting on a recorder or other child-friendly instrument is recommended

We recommend that your child be a confident reader before beginning piano lessons. He/she also needs to have an attention span of 30 minutes

The flute can be difficult for younger children to hold properly. Because of this, we believe a child should be at least 9 years old (in the fourth grade) to start flute lessons. Younger children may be interested in recorder lessons until they are old enough for flute

We believe that a child needs to be 9 years or older to begin to fully grasp vocal technique. Voice lessons can be taught to children as young as 6 years old, but they will be taught at an age appropriate level.
