This course is also referred to as Emergency Care Attendant, First Responder, or ECA. A CPR card for the Healthcare Provider is required and this training is included in the course. The course also provides the skills training necessary to maintain basic life support for sick or injured patients.

The course is open primarily to entry-level mariners and preferably should be given before they take up employment in sea-going vessels. There are no educational requirements. The mariner must be in good health.
